HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR DISPLAY CASE

Even the most amazing collection can look ordinary inside a smudged, dusty display case. That's why taking a good care of your cases can make all the difference in how your collection looks. But the good news is keeping your display cases crystal-clear is much simpler than you think! This guide shows you how to clean, maintain, and protect your display cases the right way, so your collection always looks its absolute best.

5 easy steps to clean your acrylic case

What you'll need

- Clean microfiber cloths (at least 2)

- Mild dish soap

- Clean water

- Spray bottle

1. Remove dust: Use a dry microfiber cloth to remove loose dust and debris from all surfaces.

2. Prepare cleaning solution: Mix a few drops of mild dish soap with clean water in a spray bottle. The solution should be very dilute – just a hint of soap.

3. Apply and clean: Lightly spray the solution onto the acrylic surface (never spray directly onto the case if possible, spray the cloth instead). Gently wipe in circular motions, working from top to bottom.

4. Rinse: Use a clean, damp microfiber cloth with clean water to remove any soap residue.

5. Dry: Immediately dry the surface with a clean, dry microfiber cloth to prevent water spots.

For the best long-term care of your cases, consider investing in acrylic cleaning and polishing kits (e.g. Novus or Brillianize) and anti-static cloths, which help reduce dust attraction.

Dealing with common issues

Smudges and fingerprints: Clean them using the soap and water method described above. For stubborn smudges, let the cleaning solution sit for 30 seconds before gently wiping.

Light scratches: Minor scratches can often be minimized using specialized acrylic polish. Apply the polish with a soft cloth using circular motions, then buff to a clear finish.

Static Buildup: Acrylic naturally attracts dust due to static electricity. After cleaning, use an anti-static spray designed for plastics, or simply wipe with a slightly damp microfiber cloth to reduce static charge.

Cloudy or hazy appearance: This usually indicates chemical damage from improper cleaners. Prevention is key, but light polishing with acrylic-specific products may help.

Prevent damage to your cases

Avoid these cleaning products:

- Glass cleaners. They contain ammonia that can permanently damage acrylic.

- Vinegar-based cleaners. Acid will etch the surface.

- Abrasive compounds (car wax, polishing compounds).

- Paper towels. They are rough, and will leave scratches.

- Acetone or strong solvents, which will craze the acrylic.

- Scrubbing pads. They will create permanent scratches.

Avoid these cleaning tools:

- Rough cloths or towels

- Squeegees

- Scrub brushes with stiff bristles

- Disposable cleaning wipes (these often contain chemicals harmful to acrylic)

Handle with care: Always use both hands when moving your cases. Be sure to lift them from the base, never by the top or sides. And keep fingernails away from the acrylic surface!

Keep out of direct sunlight: even though Brixter cases have basic UV light protection, it is still best practice to leave them in a place where the sun can't shine on them. This ensures better protection for your collection inside.
